rotting fruit grows tadpoles
Come back from the city, love
Where has your spirit gone
Why did you leave
What did you leave
It's in the rain
In the trees
In the weedy stones
In the cycle of floods
In the churning swell
Beneath the tangled peach tree
Where rotting fruit grows tadpoles
In the overflowing jump-off
Where you learned to breathe
Between rushing waterfalls
Will you leave
When will you leave
What did you leave
In the tumbled stones
A breath, a tear, a scratch of blood
Whatever it was
It spawns every springtime
As the water clears again
And waits patiently, nestled
In amongst the mat-rush
For you to come home
